The RMC Varsity badminton program competed in the Ontario College Athletic Association (OCAA) Badminton League bewteen 1990 and 2000. During that time we won the east region seven times, finished second 2 times, third once and fifth once. Between 12 and 16 players (half men and half women) made the team each year. The team practiced weekdays from 16:30 until 18:30 and some mornings from 6:30 until 7:45. We competed in four or five tournaments each year. In addition to the college tournaments we competed in some open Ontario Badminton Association (OBA) tournaments.
The 1999-2000 team competed in the OCAA East Regionals on February 12, 2000 at La Cite College in Ottawa. The women's team finished third and the men's team finished second out of seven colleges competing. RMC's women's doubles team of Tiger Theriault and Isabelle Jean finished third in their event. Our mixed doubles team of Elise Gilbert and Ben Achim went undefeated in winning the mixed doubles event. These four players thereby qualified for the OCAA provincial championships in Sudbury on February 26-27, 2000.
